Historic charm with spacious grassy lots surrounded by lush landscape and grapefruit, orange, and lemon trees.
Sophisticated style meets Old West charm
Arcadia Proper’s history dates back to the first citrus grove planted by farmers during the first part of the 20th century. The citrus trees thrived thanks to the fertile soil at the foot of Camelback Mountain, and hundreds of citrus orchards soon sprouted throughout the area. This rapid growth attracted farmers, investors, and developers, who saw an opportunity to offer large lots to the affluent buyers of the time.
Most of the original homes were built in the 1950s as sprawling ranch homes. Today, you’ll find remodeled or newly built homes along the quiet, tree-lined streets of Arcadia in styles such as ranch, contemporary craftsman, farmhouse, mid-century modern, cottage, and more.
Though modernized, Arcadia still retains its historic charm with spacious grassy lots surrounded by lush landscape and grapefruit, orange, and lemon trees. Residents love the lush foliage of Arcadia, which is a rare sight in the Phoenix area.
Arcadia has a luxe, rural vibe, though it’s just a stone’s throw from many amenities and entertainment options in central Phoenix or Old Town Scottsdale. The community is highly sought-after by families and young professionals alike, as it boasts a vibrant food scene, excellent schools, walkability, and a family-friendly lifestyle.
Arcadia is just a short drive to a number of upscale shopping and dining destinations, including the Biltmore Fashion Park and Scottsdale Fashion Square. The Biltmore Fashion Park is known for its high-end brands, including Arizona’s only Saks Fifth Avenue, as well as dining options around every corner. The Scottsdale Fashion Square boasts miles of dining options and luxury brands, including the state’s first Saint Laurent.
Old Town Scottsdale boasts an array of shops, restaurants, art galleries, and nightclubs, as well as contemporary public art installations, world-class museums, and historic sites from the late 1880s.
Relax after your shopping excursion at JT’s Bar & Grill, a cozy neighborhood hangout offering classic pub fares such as sumptuous wings and burgers. Enjoy a fusion of industrial and classical influences at The Henry, or admire the sweeping views of Camelback Mountain as you indulge in fresh seafood and steak at Buck & Rider. O.H.S.O Brewing, situated along the Arizona Canal, is a perfect spot to cool off after a bike ride or long walk.
Arcadia has plenty of options for outdoor enthusiasts and is home to many hike and bike trails. Those seeking exercise and stunning views should look no further than Camelback Mountain. With an elevation of over 2,000 feet, it’s an excellent spot for a hike or climb. The mountain has two trails: Echo Canyon and Cholla. Echo Canyon is a challenging hike with rocky terrain, but hikers are rewarded with phenomenal views at the summit. Cholla is home to local wildlife such as quail, roadrunners, hawks, chuckwallas, and the occasional rattlesnake. Much like Echo Canyon, Cholla is a challenging hike offering great views of Scottsdale and Phoenix. Many hikers head to Cholla early to catch the stunning sunrise.
The Arizona Canal meanders throughout Arcadia and offers a scenic waterside trail in an otherwise desert-laden landscape. Completed by the Arizona Canal Company in 1885, the canal helped bring water to the north and across to the West Valley, allowing for the development of these areas. It’s part of the 132 miles of canals operated by the Salt River Project. Today, breweries and restaurants along the canal offer outdoor seating for those seeking a refreshing drink or meal alongside the water.
